Faerdre-Fawr

Faerdre Fawr

Situated close in the small market town of Llandysul, Faerdre-Fawr was once a large farm in the parish of Llandysul.  Records show the spelling of Faerdre has varied over time including ‘Faerdref Fawr’, listed as a farm in the parish in 1758, ‘Fairdre Fawr’ in 1800s and more recently as ‘Faedre Fawr’. On acquiring the farm in December 2020, the current owners aligned the name to match that shown on the Ordnance Survey maps at the land registry and postal office so it is now formally known as Faerdre Fawr.

Physical evidence on the farm indicates that there was once a waterwheel which powered a mill. In later times, the waterwheel provided power and was linked to a bank of batteries, meaning the farm was one of the first rural farms with power for fridges / freezers. Part of the farm house is believed to date from the 1750’s.

A stones throw away from the River Teifi and the Coed Y Foel Woodland Trust visitors to the farm have the opportunity to discover picturesque walks providing views of the local area. An unspoilt rural location with easy access to the bigger towns of Aberystwyth, Carmarthen, Cardigan and Lampeter, and easy access to the coast and beaches of Cardigan Bay, and the vibrant seaside town of New Quay.
